The novel depicts narrator Nick Carraway’s interactions with mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby and Gatsby's obsession to reunite with his former lover, Daisy Buchanan.
The story is set in prosperous Long Island of 1922 with Nick Carraway as a narrator. Nick “decided to go East and learn the bond business after graduated from New Haven in 1915.. and after he has participated in the delayed Teutonic migration known as the Great War”
Carraway decided to rent a house in “one of the strangest communities in North America, in Long Island Sound, east of New York. The house was squeezed between two huge places, one of which is owned by Jay Gatsby.” In the novel, the two places are described as "West Egg" and "East Egg" .
And that’s where he met the mysteriously wealthy Jay Gatsby and the beautiful Daisy Buchanan.
As the two men strike up an unlikely friendship, details of Gatsby's impossible love for a married woman emerge, until events spiral into tragedy.
