About Upmind

English

Upmind is a mindfulness app that visualizes the state of the autonomic nervous system and allows you to practice the habit of having a blank space in your mind. In joint research with the University of Tokyo, we are working on development based on scientific verification.

What should I do to live happily?

Simply put, how can we effectively practice having some space in our hearts? I believe that the three most important habits to achieve this are:

1. Moderate exercise

2. Get enough sleep

3. Mindfulness

At Upmind, we are developing an app with the hope that by supporting the formation of these three habits (especially mindfulness), you will be able to have some space in your mind, and as a result, you will be able to continue living a life that makes you feel happy. Masu.

We recommend exercising for about 30 minutes three times a week, sleeping for at least 7 hours (the optimal amount of time varies depending on your age), and practicing mindfulness for 15 minutes every day. We have many features that make it easy to continue even when you are busy, such as a minute-long meditation guide. I would like you to take it easy and work on forming a habit first, and then gradually deepen the habit.

Why not start a habit of having some space in your mind with the Upmind app?

◆Upmind features

【overview】

A "measurement" function that understands the state of the autonomic nervous system and suggests recommended improvement actions, a "condition" function that allows you to practice mindfulness such as meditation and yoga, and a "deep sleep" function that helps you fall asleep. It is equipped with a ``learning'' function that allows you to view medical information for improving the balance of your autonomic nervous system, and a ``data'' function that allows you to check trends in measurement results and statistical information.

[Autonomic nerve balance measurement]

Measurement can be started from the + button at the bottom of the home screen, and by placing your finger on the smartphone's camera, you can measure the fluctuations (fluctuations) of your heartbeat. Based on this measured heart rate fluctuation, we use heart rate variability analysis technology to determine whether the autonomic nervous system's sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves are in balance, and compare it with your own average value, giving you a score of 0 to 100. (Please refer to this as a reference indicator to determine whether there is a blank space in your heart). Depending on your score, the app will provide advice to improve your autonomic nervous balance.

[Practice of Mindfulness]

·meditation

We offer a variety of meditation programs under the supervision of Masao Yoshida, representative director of the Mindfulness Meditation Association. Incorporate meditation into your life and use the app to develop the habit of balancing your autonomic nervous system. It is equipped with many meditation contents that can be easily done in 2 minutes, so you can calm your mind even when you are busy or at work.

First 7 days

5 minutes every day

morning meditation

night meditation

meditation at work

Meditation to nurture the mind

Meditation to reduce tension, etc.

·yoga

We have prepared stretching and yoga guide videos under the supervision of yoga instructor Yurika Umezawa. By incorporating the habit of moving your body into your daily life, you will be able to maintain a more balanced mind. A 2-minute program for relieving stiff shoulders and lower back pain can be taken in during breaks at work.

Awakening

Working

before sleep

start the day

Make the most of your day, etc.

·music

We have a large selection of music in four genres: wake up, before going to bed, concentration, and relaxation. You can spend a comfortable day by listening to music that suits your mood.

[Sleep support]

In order to have some mental space, it is extremely important not only to prepare yourself during the day, but also to get good quality sleep and rest your mind (brain). It is also equipped with a lot of content to support good sleep. There is a lot of content to help you relax and fall asleep, such as stories narrated by former NHK broadcaster Riko Shimanaga and soothing music that you can listen to at night. You can listen to it while sleeping on your bed or futon and sleep comfortably.

[Information for improving autonomic nerve balance]

In addition to the above content, it also contains a lot of medical information that can be incorporated into your habits to balance your autonomic nervous system. Just knowing how stress works can help you deal with stress better. Why not learn a lot and use it in your daily life?

[Accumulation of data]

The measured data (autonomic nerve score, heart rate fluctuation, heart rate) is stored within the app. Based on the accumulated data, the measurement score and suggested actions will be optimized for you.

[Cooperation with healthcare apps]

This app can optionally be linked with Google's Health Connect App. By linking, it is possible to store measured heart rate and meditation activity information in the Health Connect App. Also, by allowing reading of information such as step count and sleep, you can check within the app whether you are lacking in exercise or sleep, or are prone to stress.

◆ About joint research with the University of Tokyo

Aiming to provide more reliable services that are scientifically proven, Ryu Takizawa's laboratory (Associate Professor, Graduate School of Education, University of Tokyo) is working to improve the effectiveness of preventing and recovering from mental health disorders (depression, anxiety, and insomnia). Therefore, we will engage in joint research over a three-year period from April 1, 2022 to March 31, 2025. Upmind aims to create scientifically reliable apps by reflecting professional knowledge in its development.

A study conducted in October 2022 found that habitually practicing mindfulness meditation using an app for one month (on average, 4 to 5 times a week) significantly improved labor productivity by approximately 17%. We confirmed that (*absolute presenteeism). We plan to publish the research results, including other improvement indicators, in a paper in the future.

◆ About donations to Save the Children

Every time you meditate with Upmind, 0.5 yen will be donated to Save the Children, an international NGO active in approximately 120 countries around the world, which will be used to support children in difficult situations domestically and around the world. . For nearly 100 years since its founding in 1919, Save the Children has strived to create a world where children's rights are realized, and has been working to improve health and nutrition, including the prevention and treatment of malnutrition and infectious diseases, as well as other areas. We support children in a wide range of fields, including humanitarian aid and education. When I meditate, I often think about not only my own peace of mind, but also how I wish the world could be a place where everyone could live in peace. We hope that through this activity more children will be saved who will support the next generation.
