ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણના જીવન માટે આર્ષદૃષ્ટા સદ્. શ્રી શતાનંદ સ્વામીએ એક મંત્ર આપ્યો, "ॐ श्री सत्शास्त्रव्यसनाय नमः" સત્શાસ્ત્ર વાંચવુ - સાંભળવુ શ્રીહરિનો નિત્યક્રમ હતો. સર્વાવતારી ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણે ભાવી મુમુક્ષુ આત્માઓને પોતાના જીવનથી શાસ્ત્રવ્યાસંગી થવાનો ઉમદા સંદેશ આપ્યો. સત્શાસ્ત્ર અને સત્પુરુષના સેવનથી માનવ મનની કલુષતા દૂર થાય છે, મતિ નિર્મળ થાય છે. બુદ્ધિ વિશુદ્ધ થાય છે. શાશ્વત સુખ અને અનંત શાંતિનો અનુભવ તે દ્વારા જ થાય છે. અજ્ઞાન અંધકાર પર પુનિત પ્રકાશ પથરાય છે. અધ્યાત્મ અમૃતની ખાણ સમા આ ગ્રંથો આત્માના પરમ મિત્ર છે, સંસ્કૃતિના આધાર સ્તંભ સમા શાસ્ત્રો અધ્યાત્મ જીવનમાં પ્રાણ વાયુ સમાન છે. ભગવાન શ્રી સ્વામિનારાયણે શિક્ષાપત્રીમાં આદેશ આપ્યો,

स्वहितेच्छुभिरेतानि मच्छिष्यैः सकलैरपि ।

श्रोतव्यान्यथ पाठ्यानि कथनीयानि च द्विजैः।। (શિક્ષા. ૯૬)
