日本国憲法

The Constitution of Japan (Nihon Koku Kenpou, old font: NIHON Koku Kokukenho, English: Constitution of Japan) is the constitution that stipulates the current state form and governing organization in Japan.

This constitution has three basic principles: popular sovereignty, respect for fundamental human rights, and pacifism, and these principles are especially clearly declared in the preamble. (The preamble of a law is a sentence that states the purpose and spirit of the law, and the preamble of a constitution often expresses the origin, purpose, and determination of the constitution.)

It was promulgated on November 3, 1946 (Showa 21) and came into effect on May 3, 1947 (Showa 22).
