About Alberta Wallet

Alberta Wallet is a secure digital wallet for Alberta‑issued documents.

Developed by the Government of the Province of Alberta, it gives you consent-based control over sharing and protects your data with advanced encryption. The initial release focuses on the Mobile Health Card so you can carry a durable digital card on your phone or through your Alberta.ca Account. If you plan to download Alberta Wallet, the highlights below show how it fits into everyday use.

  • Store Alberta‑issued digital documents, starting with the Mobile Health Card.
  • Share only required details with consent; control what you reveal each time.
  • Security by design with encryption and optional 2‑Step Verification protection.
  • Use on Android, iOS, or the Alberta.ca Account website.
  • Durable digital cards replace fragile paper or plastic; no wear and tear.

Mobile Health Card made digital

The wallet launches with the Mobile Health Card, giving you a digital version of your provincial health card that’s ready when it’s needed. At a clinic check-in or pharmacy counter, you simply open the card and show your details without searching for a physical card. In Alberta Wallet, the Mobile Health Card appears on the wallet home once set up through the province’s guidance.

Because this release focuses on the health card, other documents are planned but not yet available. Physical cards remain valid, so you can keep one as a backup if your phone runs out of battery or you prefer a familiar option.

Consent-based sharing and privacy control

This wallet emphasizes privacy, letting you share only the information that’s required and only when you choose. When asked for your card, you can present the digital card and avoid handing over extra personal details that aren’t needed. Alberta Wallet is designed so that your data stays under your control, and it won’t share anything without consent.

Strict privacy standards and encryption support this approach. If a provider needs to verify your identity or card number, you decide when to show the card and when to keep other information private, striking a balance between convenience and control.

Security by design with 2‑Step Verification

Security is built in through advanced encryption and optional 2‑Step Verification that adds an extra sign-in step for protection. Enabling 2‑Step is useful when signing in on a new phone or after a long period of not using the wallet, as it helps prevent unauthorized access.

Access requires a Verified Alberta.ca Account, and onboarding may include a few verification steps before your digital health card becomes available. This setup can take some time, but it helps ensure that only the right person can view and use the documents stored in Alberta Wallet.

Access anywhere and durable digital documents

You can access your wallet on Android or iOS, or by signing in to your Alberta.ca Account on the web. This cross‑platform approach means your card travels with you across devices, and you aren’t tied to a single phone. Alberta Wallet also replaces fragile paper or plastic with durable digital documents that don’t wear out or fade.

If a physical card is misplaced or damaged, the digital card remains available the next time you sign in. For low‑battery moments or areas with limited connectivity, keeping a physical card as a backup is a practical option until more documents and offline-friendly features become available.
