The elephant and the stunted shrew-mouse

An old shrew-mouse couple was living in a village. Although they were kind and generous,

they had not had any child until the late years of their life

The old couple tried every possible means, and finally, condescending their efforts, God let the wife get pregnant and bore a lovely baby shrew mouse.

The husband and the wife were ineffably happy that they prepared a small celebration to treat their neighborhood.

The baby shrew-mouse did not eat much, he became skinny so his parents called him "Stunted Mouse".

Yet, Stunted Mouse was very nice and obedient, he always greeted older people politely when they met

and he never minded helping anyone in need. Moreover, Stunted Mouse was a creative friend with many interesting new games, and he knew many fascinating stories

the kids in the village loved to hang around with him.

The plump baby elephant was one of his friends.

But every time the children saw the portly elephant, they would spread immediately because the elephant always depended on his strong body to bully his friends, especially the Stunted Mouse

There was once when they were playing football, the elephant intentionally tripped on the little mouse's leg which made him fall down and his head swollen.

Despite his fault, the elephant said impassively:

- Where were you looking at, clumsy mouse? You deserve it.

The other kids were very angry at the elephant's behaviour and felt sorry for the little mouse but they could not do anything.

One day, the children in the village came to the river bank to play. While his friends played on the bank, the elephant kept chasing butterfly and ran by the river bank.

That place was slippery, the elephant could not help but slipped down to the river. He was terrified and kept struggling under the water and shouting for help.

Most of the kids were frightened, but the shrew mouse was very smart and agile, he found a long broken tree branch and let the elephant grab it then told everyone to cooperate to pull him up.

The next day, the elephant was sick so he had to stay home, and the shrew-mouse came to visit him.

The elephant looked at him embarrassedly:

Thank you a lot... I... am... sorry...

It's alright, we are friends anyway. But from now on remember not to bully our friends anymore, okay?

The elephant nodded his head, his eyes were sparkling with happiness.

Lesson: You should not depend on your body and strength to domineer your weaker friends.

or else you will lose all your friends and they will not help you when you are in difficulties.
