How is the daily calories needed by the body calculated?

Calories are the energy that food provides the body with to carry out its tasks, and the excess of these calories over what the body needs is considered the main cause of obesity, so what is the amount of calories that a person needs daily to supply the body with the necessary energy while avoiding obesity?

This question is answered by Dr. Khaled Youssef, a specialist in obesity and underweight, a member of the Egyptian Society for Obesity Studies, and a member of the American Obesity Society, saying:

The amount of calories that the human body needs varies according to several factors, the most important of which is the type of activity, and it also varies from male to female. These calories are for the functioning of all its organs and devices, such as the breathing apparatus, blood pumping, and thinking, i.e. mental tasks.

In order to calculate the calories that the human body needs to function, there are three equations that differ according to the effort exerted by the person. The calories his body needs are as follows: 70 kilograms x 24 hours x 1.3 = 2184 calories.

And if he makes a moderate effort, then his need rate increases to 1.4 per kilogram of his weight. The calculation of his need is as follows: 70 kilograms x 24 hours x 1.4 = 2352 calories.

But if he works physically hard, he needs 1.5 calories per kilogram of his weight. And the calculation of his need is as follows. 70 kilograms x 24 hours x 1.5 = 2520 calories

After knowing the body's need for calories, it is possible to control the increase, stability and decrease in weight.

In the case of a desire to reduce weight, calories are reduced at a rate of 500 calories per day, for a loss of 2:3 kilos per week.

In the event of a desire to gain weight, calories are increased, with the need to see the calories of all types of food that we eat in order to be able to control the amount of food eaten daily.
