The class of 6th marks the end of cycle 3 which includes the classes of CM1, CM2 and 6th. Progression in Mathematics in this particular year can be divided into 3 periods. The first period is generally used to consolidate the achievements of CM2 concerning large numbers(millions and billions) by using them in various and varied situations. The fractions are reviewed and in particular the sum of fractions with common denominator. As an extension of what is done in CM2, the student also works on decimal numbers 3 digits after the decimal point as well as on fractional numbers. Multiplication and division by 10, 100 and 1000 are also reviewed during this first period. In the second trimester, a fourth decimal is introduced for decimal numbers, students also learn to multiply whole numbers and decimals by 0.1 and 0.5. The work on fractions is continued and the notion of percentage is then introduced. The application of the percentages in various situations will be made during the third quarter. It is also during this second period that the students see the multiplication of decimal numbers among themselves. The study of operating priorities and the use of operating algorithms are the subject of continuous work throughout the year. .
