Sergio Mandes Musica

Sérgio Santos Mendes (born in Niterói, 11 February 1941, age 76) is a Brazilian musician. He was born as the son of a physicist in Niterói, Brazil. Mendes studied at a local conservatory in hopes of becoming a classical pianist. As his interest in jazz developed, he began to play in nightclubs in the late 1950s at the same time as the bossa nova began, a development of jazz-influenced samba music. Mendes played with Antonio Carlos Jobim (who is considered a teacher).
