The science of letters and names is a science that investigates the properties of letters individually and in combination. Its subject is the alphabet and its subject is arrangements and combinations. Its form is dividing it quantitatively and qualitatively, composing sections and commands, and what results from them, its agent is the disposer, and its goal is to act in a way that achieves what is desired in rhythm and extraction, and its rank is after spirituality, astronomy, and astronomy.

Ibn Khaldun said in the introduction to the science of the secrets of the letters, which is what is called this era of semiosis. Its status was transferred from the talismans to it in the terminology of the people of disposition among the Sufis, so he used the use of the general in the specific, and this knowledge occurred in the religion after the first era, when the extremists among the Sufis appeared and their inclination to reveal the veil of the senses and the appearance of the supernatural over them. Their hands and actions in the world of elements, and they claimed that nominal perfection is manifested in the souls of the spheres and planets, and that the natures and secrets of the letters are valid in the names, so they are valid in the universes. It is one of the branches of semiotic sciences that is not limited to its subject and is not surrounded by numbers. Its issues are numerous, written by Al-Buni, Ibn Al-Arabi, and others. For them, its result and fruit is the divine souls’ dispersion in the natural world with the beautiful names and divine words emerging from the letters surrounding the secrets circulating in the universes. Then they disagreed about the secret of the disposition of the letters, what it is. Some of them made it for the mood in which it was, and divided the letters by dividing the natures into four categories, just as for the elements, and each nature was designated by a class of letters whose nature was acted upon in action and emotion by that class, so the letters were diversified by an artificial law they call crushing. Some of them made this secret a reference to numerical ratio, as the letters of Abjad indicate their known numbers in position and nature, and names have correspondences just as they do for numbers. Each type of letter is characterized by a type of correspondence that suits it in terms of the number of form or number of letters, and the disposition of the literal secret and the numerical secret is mixed for the reason of the proportionality between them. As for the secret of this proportionality that is between them, meaning between letters and the moods of natures or between letters and numbers, it is something difficult to understand and is not of the kind.
