The “Speech Therapy: Verbal Articulation Exercises” application aims to stimulate the production of speech sounds in words, outside the therapeutic context. It is aimed at children who present changes in the production of speech sounds and who are being monitored in Speech Therapy.
This application encourages the correction of the production of sounds indicated by the Speech Therapist, in a fun and dynamic way, through games and exercises with real and appealing images.
Application Content
The application allows you to practice 19 European-Portuguese sounds (B, CH/X, C, D, F, G, J, L, LH, M, N, NH, P, R, RR, S, T, V and Z) in different positions in the word and syllable. That is, the child can practice producing each sound in:
– Initial position of word (B, CH/X, C, D, F, G, J, L, M, N, P, RR, S, T, V and Z)
– Word Medial Position (B, CH/X, C, D, F, G, J, L, LH, M, N, NH, P, R, RR, S, T, V and Z)
– Final syllable position (CH/X, J, R)
– Consonant Group (L, N, R)
For each sound and position in the word/syllable there are 4 games:
– “Find” game: allows you to work on identification skills, as the child will have to find the image corresponding to the word heard.
– “Repeat” game: allows you to practice sound using an auditory model.
– “Memory” game: allows you to work on your memory capacity simultaneously with the correct production of sound.
– “Record” game: allows the child to record and listen to their own sound production in words.
The words used in this application were carefully selected so that all European Portuguese speech sounds are represented in the different word and syllable positions. The application contains real images and illustrations of different themes and includes nouns, verbs and adjectives, which makes it a good tool for developing vocabulary.
This application was developed in collaboration with Mónica Pinheiro, Speech Therapist.
Important notes
– Although it helps to practice articulatory correction of a sound, using this application does not replace intervention sessions with a Speech Therapist.
– It is necessary that the child already has the ability to correct the sound in an isolated context and in a syllable, otherwise they should seek advice from the Speech Therapist who accompanies them.
– It is important that the child is accompanied by an adult when using this application, so that they can be helped with sound production.
– If you have any doubts about the production of a sound, consult your Speech Therapist.
– This application can also be used for practice with adults."
