In Japan, workers are not prohibited from doing side jobs outside working hours.

Private companies in Japan have traditionally stipulated side jobs for employees in their employment regulations, and although there are cases where they are allowed to do so freely, and cases where permission or notification is required, there are many cases where they are strictly prohibited. Even companies that take a tough stance on side jobs sometimes relax restrictions on side jobs as a countermeasure against declining incomes of their employees when their financial situation deteriorates and they are forced to cut wages.
