Here, the religious knowledge that students learn becomes a source of values and drives their behavior. Just as an example, among the moral values in Confucian teachings are Wu Chang (five eternal/noble qualities), Wu Lun (five social relationships), and Ba De (eight virtues). Regarding Wu Chang, Confucianism asserted that whoever could incorporate the five things into the customs of any place under heaven would be a virtuous person. When asked what these five things were, he answered, “Love, diversity, decency, wisdom, trustworthiness.
If you behave politely, you will not be insulted; if you are generous you will win many people; if you are loyal, others will trust you; if you persevere, you will succeed; and if you are kind, you will lead others” (A 17.6). The key word is, character is action, not just knowledge that students must remember, so the learning process must take them from knowledge about goodness, then create a commitment to goodness, and finally actually do goodness.
This Class XII Confucian Religion and Character Education book was written in that spirit. Learning is divided into religious activities that students must carry out in an effort to understand their religious knowledge. It doesn't stop with understanding, but this understanding must be actualized in real actions and daily attitudes in accordance with religious guidance, both in the form of ritual worship and social worship.
For this reason, as a religious book that refers to a competency-based curriculum, the learning plan is expressed in the form of activities. The sequence of learning is expressed in the religious activities that students must carry out. Thus, the material in this book is not to be read, heard, or memorized by students or teachers, but rather to guide what students, teachers and classmates must do in understanding and implementing the teachings of their religion.
This book is not the only learning resource for students. In accordance with the approach used in the 2013 Curriculum, students are encouraged to study their religion by observing the learning resources that are available and spread widely around them. The teacher's role is very important to adjust students' absorption capacity to the availability of activities in this book. Teachers can enrich it creatively with other activities that are appropriate to the place where this book is taught, whether learning through written sources or learning directly from sources in the social and natural environment.
As a first edition, this book is very open and improvements are being made to improve it.
