About Біблія українською (Турконяк)

A modern translation of the Bible for children, children and adults in Ukrainian

Ukrainian churches have combined their translation efforts to create a modern, generally accepted translation of the Word of God.

Thus, in 1997, translators headed by Archimandrite Rafail Turkoniak completed the translation of the New Testament.

The translation of the Old Testament was completed in 2007. In 2011, a printed version of the New Bible was released.

Ukrainian Bible LXX

Translation of the Ostrog Bible by Raphael Turkoniak

In 1975, Joseph (Blind) approached Rafail Turkonyak with a request to produce a translation of the Old and New Testaments from the Slavic text.

namely from the Ostrog Bible.

Work on this translation lasted more than 30 years.

The translation of the Ostrozka Bible was published only in 2006, for which in 2007 Rafail Turkonyak was awarded the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine.

The opinion about the need for a new translation of the Bible (from the original Greek texts, and not from the Slavic text, as was the case with the Ostrog Bible)

in the modern Ukrainian language emerged shortly after the founding of the Ukrainian Bible Society in 1991,

it was submitted by the first president of UBT, Doctor of Theology Yakiv Dukhonchenko, and was warmly supported by the then vice-president of UBT,

writer Borys Tymoshenko, UBT General Secretary Pavlo Stavniychuk and all members of the first composition of the Central Board of UBT.

At the initiative of the Board, the Society appealed to the heads of all Christian Churches that were part of the UBT at that time,

with the blessing of the translation - the first Patriarch of Kyiv and All Ukraine of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate Mstislav (Skrypnyk),

the head of the Church of Evangelical Christians-Baptists of Ukraine, doctor of theology Yakov Dukhonchenko, senior bishop of the Church of Christians of the Evangelical Faith of Ukraine,

honorary doctor of theology Mykola Melnyk, and president of the Church of Seventh-day Adventist Christians

in Ukraine by Mykola Zhukalyuk — and received a heartfelt blessing to start a new complete Ukrainian translation of the Bible from the original language.

After reviewing the candidacies of possible translators, the Central Board approved as a translator a priest, doctor of theology,

Professor Rafail Turkoniak, who started work on the translation in December 1992. In June 1995, it was completely completed

literal translation of the New Testament, and in July 1997 - the Old Testament. However, there was still a huge verification work ahead,

editing and improving the text of the new translation of the Bible. From 1994 to 2003, the translation department of UBT was headed by the second vice-president of UBT,

doctor of philosophy and theology, professor Dmytro Stepovyk, who, on behalf of the Central Board and the then president

UBT engaged Mykola Melnyk, an expert in ancient classical languages, in particular ancient Greek, to check and edit the new translation.

doctor of philological sciences, professor Lesya Zvonska-Denysyuk, as well as specialists from the National Academy of Sciences and universities of Ukraine.

Considerable advisory, curatorial and material assistance was provided by the United Bible Societies.

In particular, their consultants are experienced Bible translators - Dr. David Clark (Bauia Siagk), Dr. Anthony Abela (Apipopu AЬеІa)

and Dr. Kees de Blois (Keez y Vioise) made significant efforts to ensure that the translation was approved by the world community

and met international standards for Bible translation. In general, all Christian churches of Ukraine contributed to this translation without exception.

Members of the Central Board of UBT participated in every stage of preparation and editing of the translation. Finally,

every employee and volunteer of UBT with their selfless work contributed to the successful implementation of this extremely responsible and honorable work.

Only on June 21, 2011, a presentation of a new translation of the Bible into Ukrainian from ancient Greek took place in the capital of Ukraine.
